The Kifaru Video Series on Native American Issues: Overview
Series on Native American Issues Available For Licensing on Television, Radio, Mobile Video (Mobisode) and Internet Venues
Kifaru Productions has been producing documentaries on contemporary Native American issues since 1990. Our programs have garnered both educational and film industry awards and raves from reviewers as diverse as International Variety and The Washington Post. While one of our titles, "Wiping The Tears Of Seven Generations," was broadcast on The Disney Channel as part of Disney's American Legacy Series, another, "The Peyote Road," was instrumental in overturning a United States Supreme Court decision. The mandate of our work has been to amplify the efforts of Native spiritual leaders including urgent religious freedom issues, "A Seat At The Table," as well as the health of the people, "The Red Road To Sobriety."
Too many movies and television programs about Native Americans focus on historical aspects, neglecting the modern day existence of Indian people. They tend to leave viewers thinking that all the Indians died long ago. This impression is not only false, but harmful. With people thinking romantically of the "noble savages" of yesteryear, the dominant culture tends to deny responsibility for protecting the religious freedoms, land claims, health care and other rights of contemporary aboriginal nations. Our documentaries all deal with contemporary Native American issues. We welcome your interest and hope our programs assist with your educational and activist efforts.
